Community ecology of forest ecosystems. Quantitative methods of community description. Analytic treatment of  scientific literature and an emphasis on critical scientific writing.  Role of limiting factors, competition, and disturbance in determining community composition, structure, and dynamics.  Introduction to forest ecosystem productivity. History and application of successional theory. Disturbance ecology and forest ecosystem response to climate change.
